The hospital has been commissioned by his Excellency, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffu Addo since 18th August 2019. However, the long awaited premier facility has been under lock and key since its commissioning thereby attracting a myriad of controversies from the public. But in an official letter titled Operationalization of the new Upper West Regional Hospital signed by the Upper West Regional Director of Ghana Health Service GHS Dr. Osei Kuffour Afreh and copied to the Upper West Regional Minister, the Director General of Ghana Health Service GHS, the Ghana Health Service Council and all Medical Superintendents in the region among others stated ‘’ The new Upper West Regional Hospital has recently acquired Credentialing from the Health Facility Regulatory Agency HeFRA and the National Health Insurance Authority’’ the letter has informed.
According to the letter, ‘’ the Upper West Regional Health Service in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service GHS Headquarters, wishes to inform the general public and all stakeholders that, from 9th January, 2020 the new Upper West Regional Hospital will be opened to the general public for both clinical and non clinical service'' it has revealed.
‘’We express our appreciation to all stakeholders for the support in achieving this milestone towards improving the health care service in the Upper West Region’’ the letter concluded.
